Circulation and Reserve: Borrowing

ID Cards

Your Long Island University ID card also serves as your library card. To borrow books, bring your card to the Circulation Desk to activate your library account and fill out a Patron Registration form.

To obtain your card:

LIU card holders (students, faculty, and staff) have access to everything: borrowing privileges, databases, and interlibrary loan.

Alumni and Continuing Education students are allowed borrowing privileges with an LIU card, but no access to databases or interlibrary loan.

Students who need extended library privileges to complete theses or other assignments must have the Extended Privilege Form completed by their department. Circulation will keep the form on file. Students must bring their LIU ID cards when checking out books.

Barcodes

LIU Students, Faculty, and Staff need only their ID card to check out books. They can access all of the library's online resources with the same username and password that they use for their MyLIU and email accounts. No barcode is needed.

Other users, who are affiliated with LIU, but do not receive a University ID number will need a library barcode. They must come to the Circulation/Reserve Desk and fill out a Patron Registration Form.
