Get ready to plan at the Tutoring Center’s workshop for tips and tricks on how to stay organized, get things done, and still have time for fun! Learn some realistic and practical strategies to help you get through what can sometimes feel like an endless sea of work. Come prepared with your course syllabi and list of due dates. Location: The Writing Center (Humanities 223)

Join our multi-media celebration of Spanish/Spanglish voices and texts. We’ll have speakers, videos, music, and artwork to share, and we invite you to bring your favorite poems, stories, or songs, in Spanish or any combination of Spanish and English.

Tuesday, September 21, 12:45-1:45: Hacking College Writing

Location: The Writing Center (Humanities 223)

Want to learn the techniques used by successful student writers and Writing Center assistants themselves? This workshop will be helpful if you struggle with getting started on a writing project, understanding and utilizing assignment sheets, or getting your points across effectively in academic papers. Some tips we’ll cover will be using the language of the class/assignment sheet in an essay, reading other papers in the discipline to try to understand the way the writing typically sounds or reads, writing strategies like outlining and reverse outlining, freewriting, and writing “shitty first drafts.”

Pop by for our workshop aimed to help you strengthen your studying skills in ways that don’t involve staring at the same page for what feels like an eternity. Here at the Tutoring Center we’ll offer you some practical skills to make preparing for an exam feel less stressful and more successful. Come prepared with your notes and study materials. Let us help you cure the studying blues!

Tuesday, September 28, 4:30PM: Making Excellence Accessible on Campus – A Conversation with BIPOC Students

Location: The Writing Center (Humanities 223)

A panel of successful LIU Post students and alumni of color will share their secrets for navigating campus, academic life, and professional life after graduation. Panelists will share their experiences at Post and beyond, and then invite discussion with current students. This program will be co-hosted with Nilda Nelson (Public Safety) and Jeong-eun Rhee (College of Education, Information & Technology).
