Troubleshooting Remote Access to the Library's Electronic Resources from Home: Browser Issues

Browser Issues

There are several common browser-related issues that can arise in attempting to access our library's online resources. The most frequent of these difficulties usually involves your browser's cache, history, and/or cookies. Using the latest version of Firefox is recommended.

If you are experiencing trouble accessing one of our databases, there are several possible solutions including:

  1. Clearing your browser history, cache, and cookies.

    • Refer to the University of Indiana's guide on how to clear your history, cache, and cookies by browser including both mobile and desktop instructions.

  2. Enabling JavaScript on your browser:

    • Chrome
    • Safari
    • Firefox does not allow you to adjust JavaScript settings.

  3. Using a private or incognito browser:

  4. Disabling your computer's firewall when using a database.
Remember to turn the firewall back on after you are done.

  5. Using a different browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, Firefox).

Microsoft's Edge browser does not work with many websites and its icon looks very similar to the Internet Explorer one. If you are using the Edge browser, changing browsers may fix the issue.
