Online Teaching Resources Library Guide: Linking to LIU Databases

This guide will assist faculty teaching web-facilitated, blended, or online courses at Long Island University.

Guidelines for Acceptable Use of Licensed Resources (Databases & E-Books)

LIU Libraries subscribe to numerous electronic journal and e-book databases.  Generally, licensing agreements prohibit downloading documents and re-posting the documents directly to Blackboard. Faculty may create direct links to the resources.

Keep in mind the following when directly linking to electronic sources:

  • You cannot simply copy and paste the links found in the web address.  Instead, you must use "permanent" links to directly link to articles.
  • Some databases and journals (i.e., Harvard Business Review) have licensing restrictions regarding the use of online articles in a distance learning course.
  • E-books may restrict the number of simultaneous online users. In some cases, the Library may be able to increase the number of simultaneous users.
  • Portion restrictions outlined in fair use may still apply.

Please contact the Library for additional assistance or clarification on any of the above.
