The Jane Addams Children's Book Award annually recognizes children's books of literary and aesthetic excellence that effectively engage children in thinking about peace, social justice, global community, and equity for all people.

  The Jane Addams Children's Book Award has been presented annually since 1953. Beginning in 1993, a Younger Reader Category was created. Initially called The Picture Book Category, it was renamed Books for Younger Children beginning in 2005.
